Department of Economic Development & Tourism

What is Economic Development?

From a national perspective, Economic Development is the increase in the standard of living in a nation's population with sustained growth, or growth that is planned or desired.  At the local level, it's about creating places where people want to work, live, and play through business retention and expansion, placemaking, and managing local resources.  Economic development is typically measured in terms of jobs and income, but it also includes improvements in human development, education, health, and environmental sustainability.  Business and economic developers in the US are increasingly recognizing the importance of quality of life, which includes, environmental, and recreational amenities, as well as social infrastructure such as child care, in attracting and retaining businesses in a community.

The King George County Department of Economic Development and Tourism is here to assist you with locating or expanding your business in King George.  We work closely with state and regional stakeholders to promote King George as an excellent destination to live, work and play and we look forward to working with you to call King George home!
